Giants

There is a saying that
To stand on a giant’s shoulders
Is to see further than they can.
To have a clearer view
Widen the horizons
Have a panoramic picture.

But
What if we choose
The wrong giants?
What if they have
Feet of clay,
Broken and unable to move?

What if they
Only ever face in one direction,
So we see further
But only one way?
Still limited in our view
By what they see;
Choose to show us.

What if we make
Giants of others,
By putting them on pedestals,
When they are really
Only as tall as ourselves?

A real giant
Able to stride out,
To explore beyond,
Carry us beyond
Show us all the horizons
Expanding ever outward

Imagine that!

No, really,
Close your eyes
Imagine it!
Seeing all around
All perspectives
Far, far, far.
Wide.

There!
You have found your giant.

Do not settle
For a blinkered view
Stand on your giant’s shoulders
And see!
