“No good deed goes unpunished.”
Job’s comforter wisdom,
Certain to hobble enthusiasm
And wither desires
With its soured certainty.
But what of
“Nothing ventured, nothing gained”?
“No man is an island”?
A different wisdom
Born of absolute certainty
To kindle, fire
And inspire
A gesture, a reach,
A touch, an embrace,
A recognition, A love,
A true humanity,
Made of Something
And Nothing.
